They tend to do unnecessary stuff with their vehicle as well. It is extremely important to be cautious while driving during the initial years. If you are one of them, it is imperative to understand that it is the matter of your safety as well as everyone on the road. Here are a few tips that new teen drivers can follow to maintain safety while driving on the road.

Drive on highways

You do get a lot of free space on the highway. Over speeding might seem like a possibility but it is better to avoid doing so.

  1. Wear the seat belt

It is one of the primary safety measures that are present in a car. Wearing a seatbelt is absolutely compulsory when driving on the highway or somewhere else. It prevents a lot of damage and is instrumental to drive safely on the road.

  1. Put the mobile phone away

This is one of the most common problems with teenagers. They cannot stay away from their phones at any time. It looks like they have to be in touch with everyone all the time. However, driving is one time when you have to make strict restrictions. You should not use a mobile phone for any purpose while driving. Keeping it away is definitely the best option.

  1. Check your blind spot every time

Every driver has a blind spot. It is an area that is almost impossible for the driver to see. If any vehicle or person comes there, an accident is inevitable. Therefore, be vigilant and keep an eye out for this blind spot.

  1. Take fewer passengers

Fewer passengers mean lesser distractions and more able to concentrate on driving. The weight also gets distributed this way and maneuvering becomes easier. Therefore, keep the passenger load less to drive safely.

Drive on city roads

Driving on city roads needs a lot more precision and accuracy. This is only possible when you practice a lot.

  1. Stick to the speed limits

This is not only important from the safety point of view but from the legal aspect as well. The traffic laws are very strict in the city and as a new driver, you would not come into the books of the police. Different areas have different speed limits in the city. You should stick to it religiously.

  1. Don't drink & drive

This is again another common mistake that is seen more commonly among teens and young drivers. They tend to overestimate their driving capacity after getting inebriated which can lead to fatal accidents. If you happen to go to a party or drink, let someone else who is sober or take a cab service back home.

  1. Avoid rush hours

The traffic is at its peak during the rush hours and everybody is impatient. It may become a little difficult for you to control if you are a novice in driving. Your car will be in close proximity to other vehicles all times and you have to be really careful with your maneuvering. A small mistake can become costly in this situation. Avoid these times, at least during the initial stages, until you get used to it.

Drive at night time

Driving at night is definitely one of the most challenging things to do. As a teen driver, you should avoid going out at night as much as possible. When it becomes impossible to do so-

  1. Turn on your headlights

You would want to maximize visibility by switching on the headlights to its full power. Make sure you adjust the beams so that it does not hinder the vehicles on the opposite side though.

  1. Keep distance

The best way to avoid accidents at night is to not be in proximity to other potential vehicles. Keep as much distance as possible at all times and there will be no chances of an accident.

  1. Use night vision camera

This is an important piece of car technology that can help new teen drivers to drive safely at night. It consists of high-quality cameras that capture what lies ahead and displays the images on a screen on the dashboard. Thus, the driver gets to see ahead when driving and can adjust the car accordingly. Visibility up to 300 meters can be achieved by this setup. It can act as your eyes in the dark itself.

Even if you are a new teen driver, follow the tips mentioned above and you will find the driving to be much simpler and safer.
